Due to increasing demand for university student group visits to The Jones Center at Ichauway, beginning in August 2026, all university faculty or staff serving as the point of contact for a student visiting group must submit a University Student Visiting Group Request Form by the applicable deadline listed below.
Fall 2026 Visits: Requests for visits during the Fall 2026 semester should continue to be coordinated directly with the Jones Center staff member who will host your group.
January 2027 and Later: All university student group visits occurring January 2027 or later must be requested through a University Student Visiting Group Request Form. Requests for student visits will not be considered outside of this process.
All requests will be reviewed after the posted deadline. Faculty/staff submitters will be notified of their 2027 Spring and Summer semester request’s status time via email by October 30, 2026.

Student visiting groups vary in length, format, and complexity from a single-day visit to a multiple overnight stay that dives deeper into the research and management of the longleaf pine ecosystem and associated aquatic habitats.

Does The Jones Center at Ichauway offer K-12 youth programming?
A: No, we do not offer onsite K-12 youth programming.
What kind of university student groups are a priority for The Jones Center at Ichauway?
A: Our priority audiences for student group visits are undergraduate and graduate students in natural resources and ecology programs, predominately from universities in the southeastern U.S. More specifically, university courses that directly complement and relate to our research and management programs are our priority.
What content is covered during a visit to Ichauway?
A: While the possibilities are vast (view our subject matter options list), most student groups that visit Ichauway are exposed to the history of fire and land management of the property, basic longleaf pine ecology and life history, prescribed fire, and multi-objective land and forest management.
My student course has visited Ichauway before. Do I still need to submit a University Student Visiting Group Request Form?
A: Yes! All visiting student groups requesting to visit in January 2027 and later must follow the University Student Visiting Group Request Form process.
What does a student visit to The Jones Center at Ichauway look like?
A: We specialize in field-based and experiential learning. The length and format of student visits varies and depends upon the distance the group must travel to reach Ichauway, the availability of Center staff and onsite resources, the size of the group, and how closely aligned the university course is to the Center’s research and management. Some student groups may visit for as little as a half-day of programming, while others that have worked with Center staff to develop a short course or “Maymester” might stay onsite for 7 or more consecutive days. Most student groups fall somewhere in between for a 1 to 2-day visit.
